Stitching technique introduced for enhanced fibre optics in Murr
In a significant move towards digital advancement, Deutsche Telekom is expanding its fiber optic network in the city of Murr, bringing high-speed internet to around 97% of households and businesses. The project, a combination of Deutsche Telekom's own construction and subsidized expansion, involves installing approximately 3 kilometers of fiber optic cable and building 2 new distributors. This expansion will benefit 22 households and businesses, ensuring they can enjoy the benefits of a modern, reliable, and fast internet connection. The Mayor of Murr, Torsten Bartzsch, emphasised the importance of this development, stating, "Reliable internet connections are crucial for both private households and businesses." The new fiber optic network in Murr can support internet bandwidths of up to 1 gigabit per second, making it robust against external influences such as water or electricity. Moreover, it saves energy and protects the climate. The city's participation in this expansion is part of a cooperation with the Gigabit Region Stuttgart, an initiative aimed at partner-based expanding the ultra-fast fiber optic network in 178 municipalities, including the city of Stuttgart and its neighboring districts. The goal is to provide fast internet access to 50% of households and all businesses, schools, and 90% of households by 2030. Matthias Gauger, Head of Technology at Gigabit Region Stuttgart GmbH (GRS), stated that the cooperation agreement between the region and Deutsche Telekom optimally combines self-funded and subsidized expansion. The federal government is supporting this project with a funding rate of 50% and the state with a funding rate of 40%. Katharina Manthey, Representative in the Ministry of the Interior, for Digitalization and Municipalities of Baden-Württemberg, expressed pleasure at the start of the funded fiber optic expansion in Murr, highlighting the importance of a high-performance and reliable internet connection for both private households and businesses. Interested parties can seek advice in Telekom shops, partner shops, or book a fiber optic connection on the website www.telekom.de/glasfaser by entering their address in the query mask, or call the free hotline 0800/ 22 66100 for further information. The expansion in Murr also paves the way for the rapid construction of a powerful 5G network, ensuring the city remains at the forefront of digital innovation and competitiveness. As of now, over 90% of all households in the Stuttgart region can use 5G according to the definition of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA), and over 99% of the population can use 4G/LTE. Susanne Menzel from the Federal Broadband Funding Project Carrier commented that the groundbreaking ceremony significantly drives forward digitization, with a high-performance fiber optic infrastructure being the basis for innovation, competitiveness, and a connected future.
