Stock strategy nears peak 2025 levels as Bitcoin edges towards $100,000 mark.

Strategy's stock has experienced a significant boost, coming within spitting distance of its highest price this year prior to the software company's earnings report on Thursday. And guess what? Bitcoin's own price is just about to kiss the $100,000 mark again.

The Nasdaq-listed stock (MSTR) was recently trading above $400 a share, up a robust 4% on Thursday, as per Yahoo Finance data. It hit a Thursday high of $403.90, just shy of a 2025 peak of $404.42, set the day following President Trump's inauguration on January 21.

Tysons, Virginia-based software firm, formerly known as MicroStrategy, will share earnings later on Thursday.

Understanding the Crypto Scene

The company mainly deals in data-analyzing software; however, it started investing in Bitcoin in 2020 as a protection against inflation. This strategy has led investors to purchase MSTR to get exposure to the largest and oldest digital asset.

Strategy now owns 553,555 Bitcoin, worth an astonishing $53.5 billion at today's price, making it the biggest corporate reserve holder of the asset.

Co-founder and Executive Chairman, Michael Saylor, is now advocating other companies to hoard Bitcoin as a means to increase shareholder value.

MSTR's growth aligns with the surge in Bitcoin's price. Bitcoin was recently trading above $97,000 per coin—its highest level since February.

Bitcoin hit a new all-time high of close to $109,000 prior to crypto-friendly President Trump's inauguration, but saw a decline—along with stocks and other risk assets—following the new commander-in-chief's tariff announcements. After dipping below $75,000 per coin in early April, it has since recovered.

Bitcoin first broke the $100,000 mark last December, over 15 years after its creation.

Overview:

Multiple factors are driving both the escalating rise in Strategy's (typically MicroStrategy's) stock, as well as Bitcoin's nearing $100,000 milestone as of May 2025.

Crucial Factors behind Bitcoin's Price Hike

  • Institutional Acquisition: Major financial institutions, together with corporations like MicroStrategy, have significantly boosted their Bitcoin holdings, highlighting strong institutional backing and interest in Bitcoin as a long-term asset [2][5].
  • Technical Indicators: Bullish technical signals, such as a sustained break above the 200-day EMA (approximately $85,000), as well as bullish on-chain metrics like On-Balance Volume (OBV), suggest strong upward momentum and buying pressure from large investors [2][5].
  • Economic Uncertainties: Economic concerns, inflation anxieties, and a favorable post-halving cycle have contributed to Bitcoin's appeal as a store of value and a hedge against traditional financial markets [2][3].
  • Governmental Support: Certain national governments, such as El Salvador, continue to add Bitcoin to their reserves, demonstrating ongoing institutional and governmental support [2].
  • ETF Implementation: The launch of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) has made it simpler for both institutional and retail investors to gain exposure, further fueling demand and price increases [3][5].
