Streaming giants FandangoNOW and Vudu to Combine into a Monumental Unified Platform
Fandango Shakes Up the Streaming Game with a Mega-Platform:
In an unexpected twist, Fandango announced plans this Tuesday to merge its two streaming services into a single powerhouse platform. The revamped version of Vudu stands tall as the official movie and TV store for Roku devices.
Vudu, an acquisition by Fandango back in 2020, used to coexist with Fandango's flagship streaming product, FandangoNOW. This union is set to create a more robust platform, christened simply as Vudu, which aims to streamline innovations and rapid advancements for the benefit of consumers and partners.
In a statement, Fandango President Paul Yanover explained their vision: "At Fandango, we've been cultivating a digital network that caters to millions of fans across the entire entertainment spectrum. When consumers are presented with numerous viewing options, we're proud to offer a platform with an unrivaled content library, exclusive titles that aren't available on subscription services, and the convenience of 'pay as you go'."
The new Vudu won't require a subscription for browsing and promises access to over 200,000 movies and TV shows for rent or purchase, featuring blockbusters like F9: The Fast Saga, Pixar's Luca, and A Quiet Place Part II. On Roku devices, this new platform will take advantage of Roku Pay, the built-in billing function of Roku, for a hassle-free purchasing experience.
Tedd Cittadine, Roku's vice president of content partnerships, expressed excitement about this development. "As users turn to streaming to watch the latest movies and TV show releases, demand for premium video on-demand has skyrocketed. We're delighted to continue our long-standing partnership with Fandango as we work towards a future where all TV will be streamed, ensuring a smooth and seamless experience for users to discover and enjoy premium video on-demand releases."
Starting from Tuesday, the movie and TV store on all Roku devices will update automatically from FandangoNOW. Existing FandangoNOW customers can transfer their libraries and accounts to the new Vudu with ease.
While specifics regarding a "new combined" Vudu streaming platform's arrangement with Roku remain undefined, Vudu (formerly Fandango at Home), already offers a rich selection of movies and TV shows on Roku, with features such as:
