Syensqo & Teijin Carbon's PRISM EP2400: A Game-Changer in Aerospace Manufacturing
Syensqo and Teijin Carbon have achieved a significant milestone in aerospace manufacturing. Their collaboration has resulted in the first resin infusion material, PRISM EP2400, to be added to the National Center for Advanced Materials Performance (NCAMP) database. This qualification, recognized by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), opens up new possibilities for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The PRISM EP2400 epoxy resin system, when combined with Teijin Carbon's Tenax IMS65 E23 24K non-crimp fabrics and woven unidirectional reinforcements, has demonstrated exceptional technical benefits. These include low viscosity for robust resin transfer processing, a toughened and damage-tolerant resin, a long and stable pot life, and a one-part, low reactive system for global shipping. The qualification is formalized under material specification NMS 241 and process specification NPS 82401.
A publicly available NCAMP Material Property Data Report supports the qualification. This report provides certified, design-ready material data, enabling aerospace manufacturers to adopt the material with confidence. The full documentation package is now accessible via NCAMP at Wichita State University.
The qualification offers numerous advantages. It facilitates faster adoption, reduces cost, and minimizes program risk for OEMs. PRISM EP2400 is suited for a wide variety of components in both primary and secondary structures on commercial or defense aircraft.
Syensqo's PRISM EP2400, in combination with Teijin Carbon's reinforcements, has filled a gap in the market for validated out-of-autoclave (OoA) resin infusion solutions. With its FAA- and EASA-sponsored NCAMP qualification, this material is poised to revolutionize aerospace manufacturing, offering a robust, reliable, and cost-effective solution for OEMs.
