Dive into the world of art, fashion, and entertainment at Scene! Lately, Mog Coin's crypto fame has been spreading like wildfire among the tech crowd, thanks to its iconic branding and association with some major names.
In fact, according to data from CoinGecko, Ethereum and Base token saw a whopping 51% pump on the week, all thanks to tech wealthy folks like Elon Musk hopping on the Mog Coin bandwagon.
Mog Coin, also known as MOG, is a meme coin inspired by the phrase "mogging" or "to mog." According to KnowYourMeme, this term originated on the controversial image board 4Chan in 2016, and simply means outdoing or excelling over others. However, Mog Coin has broadened its meaning to "effortless cosmic domination," complete with an eye-catching logo — a laughing cat donning Pit Viper sunglasses.
On May 4, 2025, Elon Musk announced his love for the Pit Viper sunglasses by updating his X profile picture — and vibe-loving internet denizens followed suit. Soon, Garry Tan, CEO of tech startup Y Combinator, joined the party, stating he would "always be mogging." And the trend didn't stop there. Biohacker Bryan Johnson, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and X employee Nate Esparza all hopped on the mogging bandwagon.
This phenomena earned the nickname "mog/acc" by community members, referencing the pro-tech "effective accelerationism" movement, also known as e/acc. The movement, founded by former Google quantum computing engineer Guillaume Verdon (aka BasedBeffJezos), is all about rapid technological progress, even if it means neglecting traditional societal norms. And Verdon, too, couldn't resist the charms of Pit Viper sunglasses, adding them to his profile picture.
It's important to note that while the Mog Coin team didn't lobby tech bros to openly support the token, the trend has reached unexpected heights thanks to its organic appeal. "Organic as usual with MOG," Mog Coin creative director Mike Three told Decrypt, adding that everything happened without a master plan.
Meanwhile, Pit Viper co-founder and CEO Chris Garcin seems to have jumped on the "mog/acc" trend, too. While promoting a new crypto project, Pitcoin, he also tried to blend PV/acc into the equation. However, the sudden availability of this new crypto led to some confusion. "This is both a bull case for MOG in contrast and a perfect example of how confusing, overwhelming, and toxic crypto participants can be," Mike Three said. "This shit is supposed to be fun, but from the outside it is a literal nightmare. Nobody has to take the time to help anyone get up to speed, but I really don't understand the outrage."
So, what's gonna happen next?
