Technology company Camgenium introduces mobile application aiding prostate cancer patients
In the UK, prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, with over 55,000 cases diagnosed annually [1]. To address the challenges and improve outcomes for these patients, Camgenium, in collaboration with Dr. Petre Cristian Ilie, has developed HealthiumPro - a cloud-based, modular, and no-code digital platform designed to enhance safety before and after surgery [2].
HealthiumPro is a comprehensive digital tool that aims to fill the psychosocial and informational gaps often experienced by prostate cancer patients [3]. The system provides a simple, intuitive interface for patients to sign consent forms remotely, receive pre-surgery information, track recommended physical exercises, and manage their upcoming appointments [4]. It also allows clinicians to remotely monitor vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature, saving clinical time and improving patient safety [5].
One of the key features of HealthiumPro is its automation of surgical note-taking. By integrating patient-specific data and correlating surgical details with patient-reported outcomes, the system facilitates better clinical decision-making and personalized care [1].
The HealthiumPro system was built in compliance with ISO 13485, the regulatory standard for medical devices [6]. It has also received regulatory approval to be hosted on the NHS private network, HSCN [7].
Currently, no national electronic stent register is used across the NHS, with some hospitals relying on paper-based logging with human oversight [8]. HealthiumPro addresses this challenge with its centralised stent database, streamlining the logging and tracking of stent insertions [9]. If stents are left for too long, they can become infected or lead to the need for major surgery, with potentially catastrophic outcomes for high-risk patients [8].
Dr. Philip Gaffney, CEO of Camgenium, stated that the company is honoured to have enabled the HealthiumPro system. Camgenium looks forward to continuing its partnership and further developing the HealthiumPro system in the future [10].
The HealthiumPro system has already improved patient care at hospitals where it has been deployed and is ready for nationwide implementation in other healthcare settings [11]. With the rate of incidence of prostate cancer expected to increase by 15% between 2023 and 2040 [1], HealthiumPro's potential impact on patient outcomes and clinical efficiency cannot be overstated.
