Tesla broadens its Indian footprint with a new showroom and Supercharger establishment
Tesla Makes Its Indian Debut, Unveils Model Y and Expansion Plans
Electric vehicle pioneer Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, marking a significant milestone in the nation's push towards sustainable transportation. On July 15, 2025, the American automaker opened its first showroom in Mumbai, followed by the launch of its second showroom and Supercharger site in Delhi's Aerocity.
The highlight of Tesla's Indian debut is the Model Y, an electric SUV that will be available in two variants - Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD. Both models are imported from Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory. Deliveries for the Model Y are scheduled to begin in September 2025.
Tesla's new facility in Delhi houses the company's first Supercharger station in India, featuring four V4 Superchargers capable of delivering up to 250 kW. This cutting-edge technology is designed to charge Tesla vehicles quickly and efficiently, reducing the time spent refuelling and promoting the convenience of electric vehicles.
By targeting India's two largest metro markets first - Mumbai and Delhi - Tesla is positioning itself to capture high-end buyers and early adopters. This strategic move reflects Tesla's commitment to building out essential after-sales support alongside its sales and charging network.
In addition to the existing Supercharger site at the Aerocity showroom, Tesla is rolling out Superchargers at Gurugram, Noida, and Saket in South Delhi. Further expansion is planned for key cities and locations such as Gurugram, Noida, Saket (within the Delhi NCR), along with significant expansion in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
In Mumbai, Tesla plans multiple new Supercharger stations at strategic locations including Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Bengaluru is prioritized as a new and important market, with plans to set up Supercharging infrastructure there soon, recognizing it as a dynamic EV hub in India.
Tesla has secured a 33,000 sq. ft. space in Gurugram's Orchid Business Park to serve as a delivery and service hub. The company has also confirmed a further expansion to Bengaluru, strengthening its presence in India's tech hub.
Visitors to the Tesla Experience Center Aerocity, located in the upscale Worldmark 3 complex near Indira Gandhi International Airport, can get an up-close look at Tesla's electric vehicles and technology. The Model Y is on display, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable transportation in India.
Tesla's expansion plan for Supercharger stations in India beyond Delhi includes a gradual build-up of the network aligned with its Model Y deliveries scheduled from September 2025. The company has also committed to launching complementary services like mobile service, remote diagnostics, service centers, and approved collision centers to support EV customers.
With these ambitious expansion plans, Tesla is focusing on expanding beyond Delhi into the broader NCR, Mumbai metro area, and Bengaluru, ensuring coverage in major urban and suburban growth centers crucial for EV adoption in India.
