This Potentially Offers the Most Detailed Glimpse of the Nintendo Switch 2 so Far

We've had sufficient information about the alleged Nintendo Switch sequel, nicknamed the Switch 2, to form a decent idea of what's coming our way next year. It's primarily dummy consoles designed for case manufacturers' sake. However, a Reddit user with identity NextHandheld dropped some intriguing details.

Last week, several case manufacturers shared some fundamental outlines of the Switch 2, including the overall layout and placement of buttons. These were dummy units distributed to tech journalists and YouTubers, revealing little more than the console's general shape and size of controllers - mainly the new 8-inch IPS LCD (regrettably not the OLED-like Switch OLED). YouTuber NerdNest exhibited a dummy unit he received from casemaker Ivoler showcasing a sham screen and detachable controllers. Recent leaks and speculations suggest the console will incorporate magnetically attached JoyCons instead of the slide-on controls in the original Switch.

NextHandheld's anonymous claims garnered attention by declaring, "I've traveled from the future," and possessing a "final release" Switch 2 and its dock. Though skeptical, a moderator on the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit corroborated NextHandheld's substantial evidence. Revelations about this mysterious individual even made The Verge's Sean Hollister share that he communicated with the Redditor, deeming them credible.

So, what can we expect from the Switch 2? First and foremost, it will reportedly retain the "Switch 2" title. The "next-generation Switch," officially coined by Nintendo, appears to mark an authentic sequel. The logo will allegedly retain the traditional Switch logo with a "2" beside it.

Photographs of the device unveiled by The Verge reveal the Switch 2's magnetically attached controllers, complete with drift-resistant Hall effect joysticks. NextHandheld claims detaching the controller requires a button press at the back, releasing it with a tangible magnetic click.

If the flimsy kickstand on the original Switch was of little use to you, Nintendo appears to take a different approach for the Switch 2. It should offer a "U"-shaped kickstand that folds flat into the handheld's body when not in use. The leaker suggests it will deliver the same heft as the Switch OLED.

NextHandled also hinted at a dock design, which piques interest. The dock will reportedly be curved on the sides and back, not completely covering the top screen when the Switch 2 connects. It's also said to include the same number of ports as before, consisting of two USB-C, HDMI, and ethernet. According to the Redditor, the dock features a built-in fan, and the dock is rated at 60W, while the handheld is also rated at 60W. These details suggest the Switch 2 dock may boost the handheld's capabilities, potentially enabling 4K gaming, even if the handheld screen remains 1080p. NextHandled has yet to confirm this detail.

On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, NextHandled has promised to share photos. Plus, The Verge stated the Redditor revealed details about an upcoming Nintendo announcement, potentially revealing their console in January, earlier than previously anticipated. Nintendo has only confirmed that they will reveal their device before their financial year closes in March 2025.

The Switch 2's tech advancements could potentially revolutionize gaming, with the rumored incorporation of magnetically attached JoyCons and a more robust kickstand. The future of technology in gaming seems promising with such innovations.

The Reddit user NextHandheld, who claimed to have traveled from the future, sparked interest with their leaked details about the Switch 2, hinting at a more advanced tech landscape in gaming.
