Today's Mini Crossword Puzzle Solutions from The New York Times for December 5th
In case you skipped last Wednesday's NYT Mini, you've got the solutions here:
The NYT Mini is a concise edition of the larger and ongoing NYT crossword. Most days, it includes between 3 to 5 hints in each direction, organized on a 5x5 grid. However, the puzzles can be larger, especially on Saturdays.
Unlike its larger version, the NYT Mini is complimentary to play on the New York Times website or NYT Games app. But if you want to access the old puzzles in the archives, you'll need a NYT Games subscription.
The NYT Mini is an enjoyable daily time-waster that typically won't take long to complete. I usually beat the weekday grid within a minute, but sometimes I stumble on one or two clues and need to unmask the answer.
To help you steer clear of doing that, here are the NYT Mini Crossword answers (beware, spoilers are up ahead):
NYT Mini Crossword Clues and Answers
ACROSS
1) Informally refers to working on your abdominal muscles - PINPOINT ABS
4 Brings in the harvest - HARVESTS
7 Has the same sound as a diamond's weight - SAYS CARAT
8 Encourages someone to take a picture due to its longevity - PROMPTS STARE
9 Simply newly made - RECENTLY SET
DOWN
1 Shapes found in rainbows - ARCING
2 Has the same sound as a parsnip alternative - ALSO BEATS
3 Popular wrapping material supplier - SARAN WRAP
5 Has the same sound as a pear alternative - SUBSTITUTES PARING
6 Delicious, comforting winter meal - ENJOYS STEW
As for this collection of winter-themed clues, I must admit, I'm not entirely sure what a winter fruit or vegetable is. Do they only grow in the winter, or do you only consume them during winter? I'm utterly clueless, so you can imagine why those were more of a challenge. However, clues like stimulate staring, arcing and Saran wrap were clearly more manageable.
