We've surpassed the midpoint. December is charging ahead at breakneck speed, refusing to slow down. Fortunately, you're probably done with the majority of your shopping, as Christmas draws near and the popular expression has it that the bird is growing plump. Yet, I've never partaken in goose for Christmas dinner, not even duck. It seems our festive dinners these days feature themed cuisine. We initiated with Italian, whipping up a variety of homemade Italian dishes. The following year was Greek. The future holds an Asian-themed feast, in 2024.

My stomach must be grumbling, with all this talk about food. Thou art the season. Let us tackle this Wordle!

I customarily opt for a word containing A and E for my initial guess, as it's simple to follow up with O or I, or OU. But today, I chose CHAIR and it worked. With 107 words remaining, SLOPE eliminated our options to only two: TOAST or BOAST. I usually shun double letters, hence I selected BOAST, only to discover it was today's Wordle! Hooray!

I score 1 point for a three-guess solution, while tying the Bot earns me 0. I'll take even 1!

Today's Wordle Origins

The word "boast" stemmed from Middle English bosten, likely deriving from Old Norse bauta, signifying "to strike" or "to pound." This connection to forceful action transformed metaphorically into loud or proud speech. Over time, it took on the meaning of self-praise or exaggerated claims. The exact Old Norse link is in dispute, but the connection to boldness and swagger is clear.
