Today's 'Wordle' Solution Suggestions, Insights, and Solution for December 27th, Friday
Entering the twilight of 2024, Wordle enthusiasts. The stretch between Christmas and New Year's is a peculiar time, a kind of in-between space filled with festive limbo. The year's on its last legs, and winter's starting to stretch out and unfurl its limbs. I've always thought it should be spring that marks the start of a new year, not winter's bleak depths. But then again, I suppose not everyone lives in the northern hemisphere, and maybe we should have separate calendars for the two. Still, it seems odd to kick off the new year during the heart of winter. Enough of this wintery musings, though. Let's concentrate on solving today's Wordle!

DREAM began as a strong guess, but I found myself floundering afterwards. I should have either opted for fresh letters, or at least avoided the duplicate 'R.' ARTSY shed 44 down to 18, which isn't fantastic at all. I dug in at this point with CRANK, slashing the number to 4. Finally, I got lucky with GRAIN, the Wordle of the day.
Competitive Wordle Ranking
I earn no points for solving in four and I even lose a point to Wordle Bot, who completed the challenge in three today.
How to Play Competitive Wordle
Guessing in one round garners 3 points; guessing in two earns 2 points; guessing in three gets 1 point; guessing in four results in 0 points; guessing in five drops your score by 1 point; guessing in six means a -2 point penalty, and missing the Wordle results in a -3 point penalty.
Defeating your opponent scores 1 point, tying brings no points, and losing to your opponent leads to a -1 point deduction.
Add up the points to get your score. Decide on a daily score or just keep track of your progress for each day.
Fridays double your points, for better or for worse.
Today's Wordle History
The word 'grain' can trace its roots back to the Latin term 'grānum,' meaning 'seed.' This definition mirrors its original purpose: as individual seeds of cereal crops. Through Old French, the word made its way into Middle English but is now used to refer not only to individual seeds, but also to entire cereal crops. The term has also evolved metaphorically, like defining the direction of wood fibers or the texture of a surface.
