Digitally-based financial service provider Wirex adopts tGBP, making regulated digital pounds accessible to approximately 6 million users.

Tokenised British Pound (tGBP) now available for use by Wirex's 6 million users, marking the integration of regulated digital currency.

In a significant move, Wirex, a UK-based cryptoasset firm, has integrated tGBP (Tokenised GBP) into its platform. This digital representation of the British Pound Sterling brings a new dimension to Wirex's offerings, merging the trust and compliance of traditional finance with the programmability and accessibility of Web3 [1].

Daniel Rowlands, General Manager at Wirex Pay, expressed his excitement about the integration, stating that it will create powerful new rails for compliant, programmable GBP on-chain [2]. With this integration, over six million users across 130+ countries can now access and transact with a fully backed, FCA-registered digital pound [3].

The tGBP is backed 1:1 by GBP reserves held by authorized custodians, ensuring its stability and reliability. It is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is available via TokenisedGBP.com [4]. Later this year, tGBP will be natively supported on WirexPayChain [5].

The integration of tGBP into the existing multi-currency Wirex ecosystem allows users to hold, transfer, and transact with tGBP as a stable digital currency. This seamless use of a regulated digital British Pound within the Wirex platform is a significant step forward in unifying traditional and digital finance securely and compliantly [6].

Benoit Marzouk, CEO of Tokenised GBP, stated that the integration will expand the global utility of tGBP and accelerate their mission to bring regulated, transparent, and practical stablecoin infrastructure to businesses and consumers [7]. The partnership includes infrastructure integration across Wirex Pay, Wirex's enterprise-grade non-custodial stablecoin and banking platform.

This integration does not replace but rather complements Wirex’s multi-currency and cryptocurrency support, enhancing its ecosystem with a regulated, digital version of GBP that supports both international and crypto-financial activities under regulatory compliance.

While no direct details from the sources mention new user features like rewards or spending mechanics specific to tGBP, the availability of tGBP on the platform extends Wirex’s mission to unify traditional and digital finance securely and compliantly [8].

In the near future, tGBP will soon be available as a funding and payout method across Wirex Pay's non-custodial business infrastructure. Additionally, Tokenised GBP and Wirex are exploring the launch of a fully branded card programme [9]. This integration represents a bridge between traditional fiat currency regulated frameworks and blockchain technology, expanding Wirex’s offerings in digital finance and Web3 payments.
