Tokenised British Pound (tGBP) Now Available to 6 Million Wirex Users Via Integration

In a significant move for the digital finance industry, Wirex, a global payments and digital finance company, has integrated Tokenised GBP (tGBP) into its platform. This integration allows over six million users across 130+ countries to access, hold, and transact with a fully backed, on-chain digital British Pound Sterling that is regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Benoit Marzouk, CEO of Tokenised GBP, expressed excitement about the partnership with Wirex, stating, "This integration reinforces our vision to build regulated, real-world-ready infrastructure for digital money."

The integration of tGBP into both Wirex's custodial and non-custodial platforms creates powerful new rails for compliant, programmable GBP on-chain. Wirex's non-custodial business infrastructure includes stablecoin-backed current accounts, corporate banking services, and Web3 BaaS offerings.

The key functionalities of the tGBP integration include seamless transaction and storage of a digital fiat-pegged currency within the Wirex ecosystem. WirexPayChain, Wirex's proprietary zk-powered Layer 2 blockchain, is designed for efficient, low-cost stablecoin settlements. Later this year, tGBP will be natively supported on WirexPayChain.

In terms of card issuance collaboration, the Wirex platform supports the seamless use of multiple fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies, which now includes tGBP as part of its multi-currency offering. tGBP-linked cards will be available on Wirex's non-custodial platform, enabling consumers and businesses worldwide to use them for spending and payments globally.

The tGBP integration provides several benefits. It offers access to a regulated, fully backed tokenized British Pound on-chain. It is usable by millions across over 130 countries. It merges the trust and compliance of traditional finance with the programmability and accessibility of Web3.

Furthermore, tGBP is backed 1:1 by GBP reserves held by authorized custodians, and it is issued by a UK-based, FCA-registered cryptoasset firm. tGBP is available via TokenisedGBP.com.

Wirex and Tokenised GBP are exploring the launch of a fully branded card programme, which would further enhance the usability of tGBP within the Wirex ecosystem.

In conclusion, the tGBP integration on Wirex provides a regulated, on-chain representation of the British Pound Sterling, offering millions worldwide the opportunity to access, hold, and transact with a digital, fiat-pegged currency. This integration reinforces Wirex's commitment to building a regulated, real-world-ready infrastructure for digital money.
