Toyota Unveils New Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Variant of the C-HR Series for 2026 Release
New Electric Toyota C-HR to Debut in 2026
Toyota is set to introduce an all-new battery-electric Compact SUV (CUV), named the C-HR, in 2026. This vehicle marks a significant step for Toyota in the electric SUV market.
The C-HR, a resurrection of a name Toyota used on a small CUV sold in the U.S. from 2016-2022, will be the 20th electrified model to be added to the Toyota lineup globally, including BEVs, hybrids, and fuel-cell vehicles.
Built on Toyota's e-TNGA platform, the C-HR will come equipped with a North American Charging System (NACS) port and can charge on Level 1 and Level 2 AC power sources. It will offer standard all-wheel drive and an estimated range of 290 miles (467 km).
The C-HR will be the second BEV in Toyota's 2026 U.S. lineup, along with the bZ BEV. While no new information about the relationship between the C-HR BEV and the bZ BEV is provided, it is clear that Toyota is committed to expanding its electric vehicle offerings.
The C-HR will be offered in two trims, SE and XSE. Standard equipment includes a power liftgate, low-profile roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, and the option to choose between 18-inch or 20-inch wheels. The vehicle will also feature Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, a blindspot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and more.
In terms of performance, the C-HR's propulsion system produces 338 hp and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds. The C-HR will have standard steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for regenerative braking control, and it will offer four different levels of regen braking power.
The C-HR will feature a bold, distinctive design with a coupe silhouette, measuring 177.9 inches (4,521 mm) in length and 108.3 inches (2,750 mm) in wheelbase. Inside, the vehicle will boast a large 14-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and uses sustainable materials. It will also offer a 9-speaker JBL Premium Audio system as an option.
The C-HR is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships nationwide in 2026.
