New Chery iCar V27 Flagship SUV to Launch in China Later This Year
The automobile industry is buzzing with excitement as Chery, a leading Chinese automaker, prepares to unveil its latest creation – the iCar V27. This full-size off-road SUV is positioned as the flagship vehicle of the iCar lineup and is set to make its debut in the domestic market at the end of 2025.
The iCar V27 boasts a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) powertrain, a first for the iCar brand. Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine, this engine acts solely as a generator to charge the batteries, without driving the wheels directly. Two powertrain variants will be available: a single rear-wheel drive electric motor and a dual-motor all-wheel drive system delivering up to 335 kW (approximately 449 horsepower). The dual-motor AWD version offers a pure electric driving range of approximately 200 km under the CLTC standard.
Measuring 5045 mm in length, 1976 mm in width, and 1894 mm in height, the V27 has a wheelbase of 2900 mm. It is slightly larger than comparable full-size SUVs like the Toyota LandCruiser 300 and Land Rover Defender 110, but with a narrower and lower profile. This places it in a competitive size class for large off-road SUVs.
The styling of the V27 is inspired by rugged, boxy SUVs, reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Defender models. Design highlights include square headlights with circular daytime running lights, a multi-slat front grille, vertical rear lights, a side-hinged tailgate, and a rear decorative "backpack" that replaces the typical external spare wheel position. Pronounced fenders and angular body panels contribute to its off-road aesthetic.
The iCar V27 will be available in China starting in Q4 2025, with an estimated price range from ¥200,000 to ¥250,000 (around $43,000 to $53,500 USD by direct conversion). Both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions of the iCar V27 will be available.
