Union Budget 2021-22: India's Green Path with Rs 2.5 Trillion for Sustainability
The Union Budget 2021-22 has placed India on a path towards a greener future, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. It aims to tackle major challenges such as climate change, air pollution, and biodiversity loss. The Budget has allocated substantial funds for renewable energy, waste management, and research in science and technology.
The Budget invests Rs 2,500 crores in solar and renewable energy sources, launching a national hydrogen mission. Additionally, Rs 50,000 crores over five years have been allocated for science and technology research, with a focus on health and technology innovation. The 'Health and Wellness' pillar integrates air pollution management, waste control, and potable water supply with a five-year plan.
The Budget also prioritises 42 urban centres with a million-plus population for air pollution control, with a budget of Rs 2,217 crores. The Urban Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 has been increased with a substantial allocation of Rs 1,41,678 crores for waste management and public transport. Furthermore, a Deep Ocean Mission has been launched with a budget of Rs 4,000 crores for ocean exploration and biodiversity conservation.
