University of the Philippines Manila launches investigation after cybersecurity breach involving student records
The University of the Philippines Mindanao is currently investigating a cybersecurity incident that occurred on August 11, 2025, involving its Computerized Student Records System (CSRS). An unauthorized message was posted on the CSRS, prompting the university's IT Office to take immediate action to secure the system.
Within minutes of the detection, the system was taken offline to contain the breach and restore security. Preliminary findings show no evidence of data breach or leakage of sensitive information. The investigation is ongoing in cooperation with law enforcement and cybersecurity agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The university has implemented extra layers of security to prevent future incidents. All users are required to update their credentials, and the community is urged to avoid spreading unauthorized information while the investigation proceeds. The Office of the Chancellor has affirmed their commitment to protecting stakeholders' data and appreciates the community's vigilance and cooperation.
The CSRS was restored on August 12 and now operates under enhanced security measures, including user revalidation and encouragement of good cybersecurity practices among users. The university is conducting a full investigation into the incident, aiming to secure the system against any further unauthorized access.
