Costing around 30 million dollars, or roughly 26 million euros, the Reaper drone pales in comparison to the cost of the Rafale – with values ranging between 68 to 80 million euros. Deployed from the 709th air base in Cognac-Châteaubernard by the 33rd Esra, a dozen MQ-9 Reapers are at the disposal of the Air and Space Force, each armed with an optroponic ball featuring cameras capable of zooming in on targets from afar and detecting light sources even in the darkest of nights.
Since 2018, these drones have been armed with GBU12 bombs weighing 250 kg and Hellfire air-to-ground missiles with a range of 8,000 meters. Unlike traditional aircraft, they can remain airborne for around 20 hours and may soon endure for up to 30 hours with the introduction of the new "Extended Range" standard.
