The overall rating for Paul was probably a topic of discussion among developers, publishers, Paul's team, and possibly other roster fighters as well. Athletes take their ratings in video games quite seriously, even in individual sports like boxing – where egos can be particularly inflated.
Ash Habib, the head of Steel City Interactive, shared some stories about these negotiations. In the video below, he provides some insight into the challenging process involved.
Upon inquiring about potential new fighters after launch, Habib assured me that there would indeed be some notable names. Specifically, Mexican fighters were mentioned by Habib.
This update fulfills that promise.
Paul exerts a significant influence and holds a top spot in any sphere he operates in. With his potential impact on game sales – which are already doing well – his inclusion in the game simply makes good business sense.
If he requests a slight boost in his overall rating, it's a smart move to comply. He's not aiming for a 90 overall or anything extreme. Quite the contrary, viewing the other fighters' ratings might raise questions.
Apart from Paul, this DLC package includes Zhilei Zhang, James "Buster" Douglas, Otto Wallin, Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, and Erik Morales. A free content update and patch will also be released on the same day, featuring two new venues: Atlantis and Cambrian, along with new attire for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, and new functionality added to career mode to enable users to win titles in multiple divisions.
Jake Paul's rating in Undisputed, set at 84, has sparked debate among fans, with some arguing it's lower than expected given his fame. Jake Paul in Undisputed is predicted to boost the game's sales due to his influence and widespread popularity. Despite his lower rating, Jake Paul's inclusion in the Undisputed boxing video game places him above several experienced and retired fighters, such as Michael McKinson, Jono Carroll, and Jorge Linares.
