Upgrade to iOS Beta 4 introduces AI-generated news summaries and refreshes the Liquid Glass interface.
Apple has unveiled the fourth beta of its highly anticipated iOS 26 update, with key features focusing on enhancing the Liquid Glass design interface and reintroducing AI-driven notification summaries for news and entertainment apps.
The Liquid Glass interface, first introduced in Beta 3, has seen refinements in Beta 4. Apple has rolled back some of the opacity changes, making the interface more translucent once again. This means navigation bars in apps like Photos, Music, and the App Store now have greater transparency, allowing more of the background colour to show through.
On the Lock Screen, scrolling through notifications now darkens the background more noticeably, improving the readability of text. The interface is shifting towards a "Frosty Glass" look, balancing readability with visual clarity. Control Center, Lock Screen, and Home Screen elements remain largely unchanged from Beta 3, with the main transparency tweaks focusing on app navigation bars and buttons.
Apple has also reintroduced its AI-driven Notification Summaries for news and entertainment apps, which were temporarily removed earlier this year to allow for improvements. The summarized content is now italicized and clearly labeled as “Summarised by Apple Intelligence” to reduce confusion. Users can manage these summaries by opting in or out on a per-category basis and have the ability to report any issues directly to Apple.
This feature enhances how users receive concise information from multiple notifications without needing to open each app. Other notable features in iOS 26 Beta 4 include new Dynamic Wallpapers, CarPlay wallpaper customizations, continued upgrades to the Messages app, Apple Maps Preferred Routes with commute previews and alerts, and improvements aimed at enhancing overall system stability and battery performance.
Ashish Singh, the Chief Copy Editor at the platform, has been working with tech jargon since 2020. Apple plans to roll out the iOS 26 public beta later this week, allowing consumers early access to more stable builds. The final versions of the iOS 26 update are expected to roll out with the iPhone 17 series launch.
The iOS 26 Beta 4 offers a big update to the Liquid Glass UI, with a more dynamic and transparent interface. The App Store, Photos, Weather, Apple Music, and the Notification Center have also received updates, showing more prominent "liquid" effects with dynamic tints and enhanced depth. The summaries group app notifications into concise, AI-generated overviews, providing users with a quick and efficient way to stay informed.
