Upgrades for Garmin Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 unveil 28 impressive new features; here are the 4 that ignite my trail running enthusiasm.
Updated Version:
Hey there, buddy! Just got my hands on the latest updates for the Garmin Fenix 8 and Enduro 3, and I've gotta say, these bad boys are still the cream of the crop!
Garmin's recent update packs a punch with 28 new features and 30 fixes, all available through public beta testing. Here are the four updates I'm stoked about:
adapter meters
You know how you usually aim for a certain mileage every week, right? But every run isn't the same, and that's where Adapter Metrics comes in. This feature uses an algorithm to analyze factors like speed, terrain, weight, cadence, and ground contact time to determine the impact of each run on your body, going beyond just distance to provide tailor-made advice for your next run and more accurate recovery suggestions to keep you injury-free.
Running economy
Ever wondered how efficiently you're running? Running Economy does just that - it measures your aerobic performance (zone 2 and 3 runs) by looking at factors like heart rate, speed, stride length, ground contact time, and vertical oscillation (the up-and-down movement of your torso while you're running). It's a boon for long-distance runners aiming for a Personal Best, but you'll need a Garmin Heart Rate Monitor to access it. You'll start seeing this data after at least four runs.
Step Speed Loss Support
You know the feeling: you're tearing through the woods like a gazelle, but if you could see yourself in slow-mo, you'd see you're braking with every step. Step Speed Loss Support measures just how much braking you do in centimeters per second. A higher number means you're braking more and working harder to regain speed, often due to running with a lower cadence or a long stride. This feature is more helpful for flat or rolling terrain, but the feedback from your Garmin watch could help you pick up the pace in those flat sections of a race.
Evening Brief
You're probably familiar with the morning report from your Fenix 8 or Enduro 3, but now you'll also get an evening report. It's a game-changer since it takes the stress and activities of the day into account to provide a more tailored sleep suggestion, ensuring you get the shut-eye you need for tomorrow's success. You'll also see tomorrow's weather forecast, what's on your calendar, and your workout recommendation from Garmin, allowing you to tweak your plans and prepare for your runs accordingly.
