Velvet Motorworks Revives Classic Range Rover L322 with Modern 'Restomod' Twist
Estonian company Velvet Motorworks is reviving the classic Range Rover L322 with a modern twist. Founder Mihkel Külaots, inspired by the L322's boxy proportions, aims to give these 20-year-old SUVs a new lease on life through a 'restomod' treatment.
The exterior of the restomodded Range Rover pays homage to the original Classic, featuring round headlights, a signature grille, and squared-off body panels. The first fully functional prototype is expected by mid-2026, with limited production starting soon after and customer deliveries scheduled for late 2026.
Under the hood, each build starts with a supercharged V8 petrol model, specifically the later Jaguar-sourced 5.0-liter AJ V8 from the facelifted L322. Velvet Motorworks enhances performance and drivability without compromising the Range Rover's off-road capability. A selectable active exhaust system allows drivers to toggle between a full-throated roar and a quieter mode. The vehicle's stance is improved with a modest lift and larger wheels.
Inside, handcrafted interiors blend premium materials with modern conveniences like Apple CarPlay. The chassis receives modern tuning to enhance on-road handling and comfort without compromising off-road capability.
Velvet Motorworks' restomodded Range Rover L322 combines the timeless silhouette of the classic with modern conveniences and improved performance. The first customer deliveries are expected in late 2026, giving these 20-year-old SUVs a new chapter in their story.
