Verizon to Acquire Starry, Boosting Fixed Wireless Access to 90M Households by 2028
Verizon Communications Inc. is set to acquire Starry, a fixed wireless broadband provider, to boost its fixed wireless access capabilities. This move is expected to give millions of new customers a powerful and affordable broadband option.
Starry, currently serving nearly 100,000 multi-dwelling unit (MDU) customers in five major markets, will bring its innovative millimeter wave technology to Verizon Wireless. This technology will enable Verizon Wireless to double its fixed wireless subscribers to 8-9 million by 2028 and expand its fixed wireless broadband availability to 90 million households in the same period.
Guggenheim Securities, LLC acted as exclusive financial advisor to Starry in this deal. Verizon Wireless, with revenues of $134.8 billion in 2024, aims to leverage Starry's expertise in MDUs to expand its services in urban communities and complex apartment environments. The acquisition is expected to close by the first quarter of 2026, subject to FCC approval and other customary closing conditions.
Verizon Wireless's acquisition of Starry is poised to significantly enhance its fixed wireless broadband offerings. With Starry's innovative technology and strong customer satisfaction, Verizon Wireless aims to provide high-speed internet to millions more customers, particularly in urban areas and MDUs.
