Vietnam's Logistics Sector to Drive Economic Growth and Sustainability
Vietnam's logistics sector is set to play a pivotal role in the country's economic growth and sustainability. With total trade turnover expected to exceed $800 billion by 2025, the logistics industry is projected to reach a value of around $70-80 billion. The sector's importance has been highlighted by the recent FIATA World Congress 2023, hosted in Vietnam, which emphasized the strategic significance of ASEAN and Vietnam's green logistics transformation.
The FIATA World Congress, held in collaboration with the Vietnam Logistics Association (VLA), brought together global logistics leaders to discuss resilience and sustainability in the face of global challenges. Turgut Erkeskin, the president of FIATA, underscored the crucial role of freight forwarders in ensuring reliable and efficient goods movement, even amidst protectionist trends. The congress also provided a platform for Vietnam SuperPort to showcase AI-powered digital solutions at the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2025, aiming to transform logistics and strengthen global connectivity.
FIATA, as a permanent observer at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), has been actively engaged in capacity building, partnerships, and policy engagement for a green transition in logistics. The organization has partnered with the Smart Freight Centre to provide emissions accounting training, reflecting its commitment to sustainability.
The FIATA World Congress 2023 in Vietnam not only highlighted the country's growing influence in the global logistics ecosystem but also underscored the sector's commitment to a greener, more digital, and sustainable future. As Vietnam's logistics costs account for a significant portion of its GDP and contribute to CO2 emissions, the sector's transformation is crucial for the country's overall economic development and environmental sustainability.
