VinFast inaugurates its largest Indian dealership in Chennai, future plans include establishment in 27 more cities
VinFast, a Vietnamese automaker, has made its mark in India with the inauguration of its largest showroom in Surat, Gujarat. This move marks the beginning of the company's operations in the country and is a significant step forward in VinFast's plans to build a broader retail and service network.
The Surat showroom, covering an area of 3,000 square feet, offers immersive product experiences, seamless vehicle purchase journeys, and after-sales support. It is the first of 35 dealerships that VinFast plans to set up across 27 cities in India by the end of 2025.
In addition to the Surat showroom, VinFast has also established partnerships with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure for support infrastructure for charging and after-sales services. These collaborations are part of VinFast's commitment to providing a robust ecosystem for its electric vehicles (EVs) in India.
The Surat showroom will display the upcoming electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, along with other models yet to be listed. Pre-bookings for these vehicles began on July 15. While the larger model, the VF9, was showcased at events like the Bharat Mobility Expo, there is currently no specific confirmed launch date or detailed rollout plan announced for the VF9 in India.
In a statement, Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, highlighted the practicality of Chennai's industrial base and infrastructure as a key factor in the company's decision to open its first dealership in Tamil Nadu. The showroom operated by Maansarovar Motors is VinFast's first dealership in Tamil Nadu.
VinFast is aggressively setting up local manufacturing and service infrastructure with partners like RoadGrid. Initially, the company is focusing on smaller electric SUVs VF6 and VF7 for the Indian market. However, the VF9's potential launch in India remains uncertain.
In line with its sustainability strategy, VinFast has partnered with Indian clean-tech startup BatX Energies for a battery recycling initiative. This partnership aims to promote battery recycling and support the development of a circular battery value chain.
With its focus on electric vehicles and commitment to a sustainable future, VinFast's entry into the Indian market is eagerly awaited. The Surat showroom's opening might indicate that the first EV plant in India, whose location is yet to be disclosed, could be located in Gujarat. Stay tuned for more updates on VinFast's India debut.
