VW Logistics Chief Outlines Decarbonization Plan at ALSC Europe

Oliver Bronder, managing director of vehicle logistics at VW Group Logistics, shared his insights at the ALSC Europe conference in 2024. The event, held from March 19-21 in Kameha Grand Bonn, Germany, saw Bronder outline a clear agenda for decarbonising logistics within the automotive giant.

Bronder's plan included increasing train capacity powered by green electricity, adopting electric trucks, and using LNG ships and synthetic fuels like ammonia for vessels. The division has also boosted its use of digitalization to enhance efficiency in finished vehicle shipments.

Looking back at the recent supply chain crisis, Bronder highlighted the importance of problem-solving and collaborative decision-making across functions. VW Group Logistics has since improved its demand and capacity forecasting, focusing on transparency and data. During the capacity crunch, the division temporarily increased its use of chartered trucks but has since returned to normal levels.

Bronder's keynote speech underscored the strategic importance of logistics for VW Group. By driving reliability for the end customer, logistics has become a competitive edge for the company. The division's commitment to decarbonisation, digitalisation, and improved forecasting positions it well for future challenges.
