Unleashing the Power of Whoop 5.0 and MG - Upgrade Your Fitness Game!

Whoop Unveils Version 5.0 of Their Equipment and Introduces MG Hardware, Alongside Varied Pricing Options

After a stealthy social media reveal, the anticipation finally ends as Whoop unveils its long-awaited 5.0 device, accompanied by the "MG" (medical grade) version boasting ECG readings and blood pressure estimation. Juice up your membership for just $49 or by choosing one of the three revamped membership tiers: One, Peak, or Life.

This badass fitness tracker, which previously earned a prestigious four-star rating during the 4.0 model review for its seamless integration of fitness and recovery tracking, and its top-notch handling of strength training, is exclusively available through a subscription. Here's the rundown on upgrading your Whoop game.

What's New in the Whoop 5.0?

The 5.0 device flaunts a design similar to its predecessor but is 7% smaller, meaning accessories from the 4.0 won't fit the new device. Long-standing members with more than 1,500 recoveries will receive a "Milestone collection" box packed with extra bands as a token of appreciation.

The 5.0 boasts a 14-day battery life, more than double that of the 4.0, and a new power pack (wireless for Peak and Life members, wired for One).

Underneath the hood lie internal upgrades - a whopping 60% faster processor, and "enhanced sensors."

The Whoop MG - Medical Grade Power

The MG version of Whoop takes things to the next level by allowing ECG readings right from your wrist, similar to Apple Watch or Fitbit. The MG device comes with a Whoop Life membership.

Membership Tiers Breakdown

Make your choice from the trio of options: One, Peak, and Life. Here's the lowdown on each:

One - Budget Bundle

For those on a tight budget, the One membership offers a wired charger instead of the wireless power pack, and a CoreKnit band. Downgrading will mean loss of some features like the Health Monitor or the Stress Monitor.

Peak - Upgraded Essentials

The Peak membership resembles the subscription level offered with the 4.0, with the addition of the upcoming Healthspan feature that calculates your "Whoop age" and provides guidelines to improve your health and longevity.

Life - Top-ShelfMembership

The Life membership is the crème de la crème, offering the MG device, the Healthspan feature, ECG readings, and a blood pressure estimation (currently in beta). Calibration with a blood pressure cuff is required to start using the blood pressure feature.

The Upgrade Path

Current Whoop members looking forward to upgrading free of charge must extend their membership for another 12 months to qualify. If you'd rather pay a fee, a one-time $49 upgrade fee lets you get the 5.0 device on your existing membership term. A "gift kit" will be provided for passing along your old 4.0 device to a friend, including a sanitizing wipe and a brand new SuperKnit band.

Keeping the 4.0 - Don't Worry, Be Happy

No need to fret if you decide not to upgrade. Your Whoop membership will continue to function with the 4.0 device, and you'll still reap the benefits of the Peak membership, including the exciting Healthspan feature once it becomes available. If your membership renews without you selecting a tier, you'll automatically be rolled into the Peak membership.

  • The long-awaited Whoop 5.0 release brings advancements in health technology, with enhanced sensors and a 60% faster processor, promising better fitness and recovery tracking.
  • The Whoop MG, a medical grade version of the device, takes things a step further by incorporating ECG readings, making it similar to technology seen in devices like the Apple Watch or Fitbit.
