Xiaomi's hit electric SUV begins fulfilling orders exceeding 300,000 units
In a remarkable display of consumer interest, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi's latest offering, the YU7 electric SUV, has seen over 240,000 orders within just 18 hours of its launch on June 26, 2025. The vehicle, officially unveiled on the same day, is now being delivered to early customers across 58 cities in China, with founder Lei Jun personally handing over some initial vehicles.
Despite the initial deliveries, Xiaomi is grappling with production bottlenecks, causing delivery waiting times to stretch dramatically. Customers ordering the YU7 face wait times as long as 59 to 62 weeks (about 14 months) for the standard version, increased from around 58-61 weeks a few days prior. The Pro and Max variants have somewhat shorter but still lengthy waits of roughly 53-56 weeks and 45-48 weeks respectively.
The YU7 SUV comes in three variants: Standard RWD, Pro AWD, and Max AWD. The RWD model produces 235 kW of power and 528 Nm of torque, offering up to 835 km on the CLTC cycle or approximately 650 km on the WLTC cycle. The Pro AWD variant, on the other hand, boasts 365 kW of power and 690 Nm of torque, capable of fast charging that can add up to 620 km of CLTC range in just 12 minutes. The Max AWD variant takes performance a step further, producing 508 kW and 866 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 3.23 seconds.
The YU7 also features a large infotainment screen with the latest technology and a unique physical heads-up display in Xiaomi's implementation, which is considered better than most heads-up displays that project onto the car's windscreen.
Interestingly, the initial surge of YU7 buyers revealed a shift compared to Xiaomi’s sedan SU7 lineup. Only about 10-15% of YU7 buyers were existing SU7 or SU7 Ultra customers, indicating that the SUV attracted a largely new customer base. This suggests Xiaomi is reaching new segments of the Chinese EV market with the YU7.
